I installed a brand new CPU, AMD FX 8320 8 Core 2 days ago, I finally have managed to get my computer to turn on as I THINK the problem was I installed the heatsink and fan incorrectly (I remembered thermal paste).

Just to make sure this was the problem to avoid it in the future, would a badly installed heatsink cause the computer to shut off within 5-10 seconds of being powered on, even though the cpu was no way near a high temperature?

SPECS:
AMD FX 8320 8 Core 3.50ghz 16mb
Radeon R7 260x 2gb Graphcis
8GB Ram
750w PSU

Temp was averaging around 40c while playing battlefield/titanfall.. but my original question was that would a badly installed heatsink cause a problem such as a power cut out?
When I had the problem my PC was literally on for 10 seconds before cutting out, I don't understand how it could heat up that quick and cut out. I solved it by re-installing my heatsink and adding a little more thermal paste..

Maybe AMD chips have other options on self terminating while exposed to massive heat. I remember once, on Intel chip, i also didn't fit the cooler properly , but it didn't auto shut for maybe 30-40 seconds. I manually shut down the pc, as soon as i saw that on real temp i was hitting 100C. Btw 40C, while gaming is fine.
