My dell inspiron n5010 shows vertical thick lines right from startup and shows blue screen and then restarts. It loads windows in safe mode often and shuts down after the processor gets over heated. It loads windows normally very very rarely.

I have 4 gb ram, 2 sticks of 2 gb. I had tried removing one and starting. It still shows the same problem. its around 3 yrs old and was used only by me. I always ensure proper air circulation at the bottom of the lap.

please find the link to the videos and suggest me on what needs to be done.

That doesn't sound like a memory issue. If its shutting down because the CPU is getting hot, that sounds more like a heat issue. Try using some compressed air to clean the dirt out of the case. Did you happen to drop it or anything that might have broken the heatsink?

Thanks.. but i tried connecting a monitor and then powering on.. but i dint see any output to the monitor.. Or does windows needs to be loaded to output to external monitor.. Else could you tell me how to connect to external monitor right from startup .

The heat issue seems to be secondary because i get to see these distorted display even when I turn on my laptop for the first time in the day (it should be cold enough). More over isnt the heat sink made of light weight highly conductive metal? Is there some thing apart from heat sink that could break and cause all these problems?
