How to reset settings back to factory on a Gateway Windows XP desktop

Please someone tell me how to restore my default settings on a Gateway Windows XP desktop? I've tried pressing F8 & F11 at start up & nothing comes up.

If you don't have the recovery store in ur hdd., its not worth pressing that function keys., After taking backup you have to take a fresh image and repair or re-installed., that is the only option.,
