emergency, Helpp !!!

So HDD, spins up but nothin comes up on the screen, checked ram ok, Psu, think that's ok tested, 2, so last resort, seeing I've made loads about this, is I opened up the case, Spins, Arm moves bck and forward but suddenly stops same time, everytime!

Any help? Thanks

An arm moves back and forward...is this a PC, or a robot that has stopped working? Please provide a complete system description.

are you saying you opened the HDD to see the platter and the head arms move?

if so you just destroy your drive since opening a drive needs to be done in a clean room environment.

I think it had had its days anyway, Emerald. But should it always be moving bckwards and forwards, because it doesn't go bck to the starting position, untill I turn off computer. It just stays there, can this be why nothing appears?

It sounds like the actuator was worn and wasn't tracking the heads to the right location. Could be wrong though

So, don't even have a fix for it, might just work enough so I can get a thew files of it?, never know could work!?

If you opened a hard drive, no you won't get anything off of it.

Ok, well if I install windows again, on my 2nd hdd with files on, will I have to format it, because I'm not doing it other wise?
