Hi, I need help pinpointing and hopefully fixing a heat problem I'm having with my system. I completed this build (specs listed below) at the beginning of December. This was my third build, but first one that I've overclocked. I mostly used the auto overclocking tool provided in the BIOS. Initially, it was overclocked to 4.2 ghz and everything was stable and temps were fine (~30 deg C idle, up to ~70C load). A few weeks ago I noticed my temps had started going up. Idle temps were in the mid 40s C and load temps sometimes got as high as mid 90s C. I checked all fans and the pump on the H100i; everything seemed to be working properly. I lowered the OC to around 3.9 ghz. I don't recall the voltages off of the top of my head, but they seemed appropriate from what I've read.

The other day when I got home I noticed my computer was making more noise than usual, checked the temps and the CPU temp was around ~70 under idle conditions. There was a slight rattling sound that sounded like it was coming from the pump, but I'm not entirely sure. The H100i fans were running at around 2400 rpm and the pump was also working according to Corsair Link. All other case fans were working as well. I shut the computer down and opened it up to take a look and clean out any dust (relatively little). I checked to be sure the backplate was mounted securely, it was pretty snug from what I could tell. I cleaned off and reapplied the thermal paste (pea sized amount) and remounted the cooler to the CPU. None of these fixed the problem. Idle temps wound gradually climb to about 70 degrees C within a couple of minutes upon start-up. I felt the tubes to see if I could feel liquid moving through them, it seemed like it was. One tube was noticeably warmer than the other.

I'm pretty much at a loss of what to do next besides RMAing the H100i because of the possible rattling noise and hoping that's the problem. This weekend I'll probably try attaching the stock cooler that came with the processor to see if that fixes the problem. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Here are some pics of how it's mounted (front and back), maybe there's something that I did incorrectly. http://imgur.com/a/yOjvo#iCYsY5t

Sounds like something with the pump could be going bad if the fans are spinning at 2400 RPM and still getting 70C like your CPU is at full load. I would recommend RMAing it, especially with the pump clicking like that, it could be the pump is going out and not circulating water well enough.
