I'm in the process of building my first PC and I've come to the point where I need to install the motherboard. However when trying to put in the I/O shield the metal on the case will not pop out to create the hole to place in the shield. It appears to be completely sealed with no visible joins and will not pop off, no matter how hard I whack it. There are holes already there but they do not match the shield or the motherboard.

After looking at pictures of the case online all the pictures of the I/O section clearly show a seam where you can pop it out however with mine there is no such seam at all. Is it possible that I have a dud case that hasn't been manufactured properly? The case is an Antec One and the motherboard is an ASUS M5A97.

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.

It does, indeed, sound like you may have a bad case, though I have never had one from Antec. Try these;
1st. Take a screw driver or pliers and try twisting the metal panel out the same as you would do up front if installing an optical drive.
If that doesn't work:
2nd. Give Antec a call or otherwise contact them. They have always been super with me when I needed support. They will either help you get that thing out or you will have the option to RMA the case. Don't know where you bought it, but if Antec tells you it appears defective you might be able to contact the folks who sold it to you and get a new one.

Thanks, I've tried what you've suggested but it's not budging in the slightest. I have heard good things about Antec support in the US but it seems to be a bit lacking in the UK, however I did eventually manage to fill out an online form detailing the problem and I just received an automated looking email back telling me to fill out an RMA. It's bought through Amazon so I'll just try to get a replacement from them which shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks again for the help.

roger the Amazon thing: they have been amazing with my returns.
Don't know if the Amazon Prime deal is the same in UK (Here it is $79 USD as of today), but that might be a consideration if you use them a bit; the price is going up in about 5 day, but as of today is still at the old price. If it is offered over there it is likewise worth taking a look at: and no I am not a prime member but am giving it some consideration before it becomes too much money.

Yeah its £79 for the year over here so you're getting slightly the better deal unsurprisingly ha. It's not something I've ever considered but I activated the free month trial of it before ordering all of my components for the build from there and it's been fantastic. The free one day delivery has saved me a lot of money and time and the streaming services they offer are better than I thought. As you say if you order regularly from there it's a no brainer.

Amazon is definitely best with returns and I'm pretty sure the Amazon Prime deal is still here; I also heard you could always do the 2 day free trial and than cancel it lol.
