Open Gaming Headset - Unique Requirements??

I have done extensive research including, but not limited to, Mad Lust Envy's Guide. I am wondering if my requirements are just too unique to have a reasonable solution.

My wife and I often game in the same room (multiplayer - same game) and like to be able to chat "offline" with our headsets on. In the past we've used cheap on-top-of-the-ear junk and we are both looking to upgrade. I've seen some Sennheiser sets with a flip-up second cup, but the reviews were terrible (uncomfortable and a low quality build). If other offer a similar feature, closed cans would be ok. I completely understand why most sets seal out the outside noise, but that is not what I want at all.

Based on the scenario listed above, I'd like open headphones. I'd know there are headphone-only solutions that would work, but I like the convenience of having the mic built in - if it could auto-mute when raised/retracted, that would be ideal.

I am looking to spend under $150 if possible.

I think I would prefer an audio jack solution, but if a USB set fit all my requirements, I could be convinced. I don't have a separate sound card (using on-board from Hero Maximus MB), but I have all the wires run to support audio jack connections.

I'm not against the 7.1 surround sets if there are great options, but stereo is fine. I've seen some sets that offer both options (audio jacks and USB surround). That may be the best of both worlds so we could pick what we like best.

So here is my requirements list boiled down:
1) Be able to hear background noise (open headphones)
2) Under (or around $150)
3) Comfortable and light
4) Audio jack preferred, USB would be considered

Thank you for your help!!

The Plantronic Gamecom 780s are a fantastic option, they pretty much fit your requirements, as you can hear the background noise, they are around $60. I wear mine for at least 6-7 hours straight minimum and they are very light and comfortable + they don't squeeze your head. They support stereo and 7.1 audio surround although they are USB but I'm not sure why that's a problem.

They don't auto mute although their is a mute switch on them.

People say they break easily, I've dropped mine, even sat on them and not a crack, I'm not sure if them people have 2ft wide heads but from personal use I can assure you they have great build quality and sound fantastic!
