I'm new when it comes to graphics cards, in the past I normally just bought the newer cards or a higher number on the card list to upgrade.

Current setup.

AMD FX-8 Core Black Edition - 9590
Nvidia Gtx 550 Ti
24 Gigs ram
Windows 7

I'm not really sure what I should get as an upgrade so I'm hoping you guys/gals can help me with that. My price tag is sitting at around $1200 for the card alone. I'm looking for something that's going to last, something that will allow me to max out any game I throw at it. Skyrim with ENG mods, Crisis 3, Metro Last Light etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

the780 ti or 290 are ample unless your on super high resolution with say three [strike]1080p[/strike] 1440p monitors in portrait 7680x4320 then you will certainly need 6gbs vram the titan/black has.

I'm running 1920 x 1080 duel 27', it's not eyefinity setup or anything just stand alone monitors. I'm leaning towards to 780 ti since I've always done I nvidia cards. The only reason I went with amd processor over Intel was price on that one.

If you plan on dedicating a lot of time to Skyrim, I would suggest looking into replacing your AMD CPU with an Intel i5/i7. Your $1200 budget allows for a complete replacement of your CPU/MOBO/GPU. Reason being is that Skyrim performs a whole lot better with an Intel CPU, and if you're throwing mods on it, you're going to need the Intel CPU.

Switch over and pair it with a GTX 780 Ti or a Titan Black, and you're good to go.

Yeah I don't understand the Titan Black, waste of money, I think people buy it for the name. "oh I run a TITAN!" But I'm an Nvidia person so I would go with the 780ti 3gb, it runs slightly faster than the R9290x but they both run very fast and are very close in comparison, so it's more about personal preference.

I reccomend the 780 ti as it beats the r9 290x by just a bit, but has more features to it. I also recommend using SLI with two 4GB GTX 770's. Normally I would reccomend AMD, but their prices have shot up drastically because of crypto coin currency. As of now, Nvidia will give you the better bang for you buck. Another combination would be the 780 in SLI. What you need to understand is that you can never buy a card that is guarenteed to last, because you can never know how technology changes and how games are going to change in the future. Future proof is a very bad term. Just understand that you will never be able to prepare for future games because you don't know how they will use hardware, or what they will demand.

Okay, with that build you posted you have an Intel processor. Aside from my 9590 having issues with skyrim, I assume it's still a good processor. From the amd site it says it's one of the best.. Maybe I'm wrong. Just bought it a few weeks ago.. Now starting to regret the purchase.. Can't really return it at this point.
