New modem and router-speed is slow, how long till speed is normal

Just got a new modem and wireless router and getting horrible speeds. Will this get better and how long does that take?

What did you have before?

- Motorola Sb6580, cable modem and router together, First time I ever did that and it was horrible, lost connections about 5-10 times a day and had to unplug to get connection back

What was the speed?

- average around 20- 25mbps

What did you change to?

-Modem - Motorola sb6121
-Router - Linksys E2500 600N

What is the speed now?

-4mbps

What do you pay your ISP for?

-comcast 50 mbps

How are you testing the speed?

speedtest.net and Linksys software that came with router.

Distance, antennae orientation, stuff in between, channel interference...all come in to play with WiFi speeds.

Without a baseline test of wired speed, you can't really tell if it is a bad router, or just a bad WiFi signal.
I'd guess WiFi, but completely uncertain.

So its a dual band wireless router but my computer network card only does 2.5ghz. I tried the speed test on my ipad through 5ghz connection and speed was near 30mbps.
