Hello have found something odd this week as I was messing about I have just built in the last 4 months a new AMD FX 6 core system but I was digging around and found on of my old Intel Core 2 quad systems that made its way under the stair well at some point and was for got about so I wanted to see how it would do vs my newer tower just for fun the thing is the core 2 quad is posting better number then my new 6 core in every thing I do with it I am just looking for more a info batt around with other members not fan boy talk or any thing silly I know I could have built a I5 for few dollars more but I picked AMD just cause it was good combo CPU MB deal here are the specs of both systems (I figured for testing I would use the ram and GPU from my new system in the old core 2 as it had a older set of 1333 Corsair Vengeance in it and to old GTX 8800 ultra and I wanted to test newer DX11 games) just was really shocking how well that old core 2 runs makes me want to use it and give the AMD to my wife with the old Ultras and older ram in it lol

NEW system:
AMD FX6300 OC 4.2GHz
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 8GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Antec High Current Pro Platinum HCP-1300 1300W 80Plus Platinum Certified
Corsair Force Series GS 240GB
Seagate Desktop HDD 3TB
ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DCU II OC 2GB GDDR5
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

OLD Core 2:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
GIGABYTE GA-P43T-ES3G
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 8GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Corsair Professional Series Modular HX750 80PLUS Gold Certified
OCZ Agility 3 60GB
WD Black 750GB
ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DCU II OC 2GB GDDR5
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

For some odd resign all my screen shots did not save the FPS of the games so have to redo my little test but it was good fun never under guess older Intels lol

Solution
Yeah, if you're overclocking definitely get the 8320, it can be overclocked just as far as an 8350 and in some cases further, because they are the same chip.

The FX-6300 is faster. It is also faster in single-threaded performance, but not by much. (Type "FX-6300 vs Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650" in google) So the FX should run better. But your FX is overclocked so it should run even better.

I did hear that the OS could have some problems when assigning threads to the AMD multi core, multi module design. What I mean is AMD design uses modules, each module has two cores, but these cores also share some resources in the module, like cache. So if the OS was to assign two threads to core 0 and 1 both running on the same module, that might give worse performance compared to running the threads on core 0 running on module 1, and core 2 running on module 2. I read this in some other thread. Perhaps this was an old thread and it's no longer an issue. But you said the FX did worse in everything, so that makes me think it's unlikely this causes the problem. The FX should be faster.

I found some information about the FX<-> windows problem I talked about in this thread.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1864199/battlefield-low-fps.html

"Have you installed the two hotfixes for Win7 SP1, regarding AMD FX optimization?

It may lead to a little smoother game play, worth a try."

First install KB2645594:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594

restart, then KB2646060:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060

So if win7 isn't up to date, perhaps that's something to give a try.

Yes it does seem to be a issue with the CPU as I have been doing more testing with a buddy's FX6300 that he was not using it seems to run much better then the one I got so I will be taking it back for refund this week figured I would pick up the FX-8350 as it seem to be on same now and its the best AMD CPU I can use in this board and should last for a few years for work and games

If you're overclocking at all, get the 8320. If you're not overclocking, consider overclocking and get the 8320. The 8320 is the same CPU as the 8350 with a lower factory clock, so you can easily overclock it to the point of the 8350, which takes about 5 minutes. You will save at least $50 unless it's a really nice sale.

8350 is on for 199.95 and the 8320 is on for 164.95 so both not to bad of price really I was thinking of OCing the 8350 as I have a new cooler to try out now as well lol
