How to Use Laptop Monitor to View Desktop Computer

As the title suggests, I want to be able to use my laptop monitor as the primary (and only) monitor for my desktop tower. I am fully aware of using a program such as Splashtop 2 as a remote connect, but I can't do that due to the fact that I don't have a monitor for the desktop tower to set it up on. Ideally,II will use an HDMI cable to connect the two. Both computers have HDMI on the motherboards already, so besides setting it up, all I have to do is plug in the cable. I have exhausted all the knowledge I have in getting this done, but I stand here empty handed of desired results. If anyone out there knows how to do this, your sharing of knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, there really isn't another way to do it. You need some sort of display to set anything up...
Hi, you want to connect the two HDMI from both the laptop and desktop tower together. That will not work, because the HDMI port from the laptop is an output, not an input, same thing for your desktop tower. I know some few laptop have both HDMI ports, one input and one output.

Is there another way to do it then? USB, Ethernet, etc.? I have a beast of a desktop that is just sitting here. I built it over about a 3 month period right as the Haswell line was being released. So I've got an i7-4770k, Intel Extreme motherboard (which I regret going with, but still paid a pretty penny for), 512GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD, 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866Mhz DDRAM, and so on that is just sitting here doing nothing. The only monitor that I have is the monitor on my laptop.

Goodwill, Salvation Army, pawn shop for a cheap monitor. Or borrow one. If you were local, I'd loan you one for a few days.

Thank you. I suspected that this would be the case, but was hoping that someone had previously unknown knowledge passed down by the monitor gods or something. LOL
