Hey there,

I was going to order a custom laptop build from pc specialist but with the announcement of the 800m series I thought I could get a laptop with one of them in instead since they're coming out at the end of this month. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the price difference was going to be between the two? I was looking at getting a 765m so was wondering what the 865m would cost? Would it be roughly the same price or should it be a bit more, and if so by how much?

Thanks, George.

There is no 865M, just the 860M and 870M.

As far as ASUS's ROG laptops go, there's the 860M model for $1399. If I recall correctly, the 765M model of the same ASUS laptop usually goes for about $1250. The 860M performs about as well as the old 770M, according to notebookcheck, which is a good 20%+ faster than the 765M.

The benefit to the 860M however is it is significantly more power efficient because it's a Maxwell chip, so it runs much cooler.

The website I'm ordering off of has the ddr5 version of the 850m which looks like it's a bit better than the 850m and I can get it in a lighter, cheaper chassis. The 860m might be a little bit out of my price range, i'll just have to wait until the website adds them at the end of the month...

This is where you confused me.

It doesn't surprise me that the 850M comes pretty close to the 765M, since the 860M is coming very close to the 770M. But I assumed (obviously incorrectly) you meant the 750M, not a "DDR3 850M". :)

Yeah, I have a gaming desktop so as long as I can play most games on medium or high at 1080p then it's fine. The power saving will be worth it. I just hope I can get an 860m from pc specialist at a price I can afford :)

Also, thanks for the benchmark link, shame the 850m doesn't have any bench marks yet :/
