Hey everyone,
I am needing some help from the gods (forum gods that is)

I am very new to Linux and my friend recommended it for it's lightweight character for servers. I got a new N54L microserver and installed F20 with no problems.

I tried to follow http:// but had no success.
So firstly, does terminal autosave what we type or how do we save it?
Secondly, assuming i made a mess of my smb.config file, how can i restore/regenerate the original?

Returning back to the samba, i managed to make a folder in terminal (go me) and the server is definitely connected to the network (i can google stuff), but i cannot physically see it on my Windows laptop on the network or by mapping it's IP. I have triple checked the IP and gateways are correct via the settings->network GUI in F20.

If anyone can possibly provide a how-to guide in GUI that would be perfect. I tried using GUI on my own and i made a location (on my second drive) with some pdfs and some music on it.

Right now, i would be happier with no security or passwords on it as long as it works. But i would love to be able to put a password on my server to prevent other house members from deleting my things.

Any help would be great!

Thanks for reading.

Let's assume that by F20 you mean Fedora 20. You should first read all of the Fedora documentation regarding Samba.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/19/html/Sec...

Then try to follow those instructions and examples. Come back if you have specific questions with the procedures involved.

If you are serious about Linux then you will soon find out that it is normally a lot quicker, and a lot easier, to configure things by editing text files rather than messing about with GUIs.
