Windows Defender...why is it rated so low?

I was looking at some Anti virus software reviews and I guess Bit Defender is the best and most used one of last year. Windows Defender scored a 2.0 out of 8.0 in a comparison against a few others.I have had no issues with Windows Defender to speak of and as Windows 8 gets more mature; Defender get's more tuned IMO. So I noticed it is a bit more aggressive now that last summer. I understands that it lacks in features compared to it's 3rd party application counterparts but it seems to be effective for Home use. So why is Bit Defender orders of magnitude better according to some sites I briefly looked at?

microsoft essentials isnt windows defender mate. at least not on win 7. on win 8 MsSE was sort of integrated into the o.s as standard software but to be honest your better off turning it off and using a 3rd part app.
all versions of windows ship with windows defender as default. but you have to download MsSE if your using win 7.
MsSE is a different kettle of fish. it is an anti virus but not a very good 1 it failed to detect a lot of emerging threats, was slow to be updated and became bogged down in its own interface. at 1 point it was even classed as malware as it was hijacked and impersonated.
if your looking for a free av there are better alternatives.
win defender isnt really a catch all antivirus it deals with emerging malware threats to the windows o.s specifically. it will quite happily let a virus wreck the rest of your hdd as long as it doesnt try to attach to a windows host program. so while it has a function that it does reasonably well its not a good idea to rely on it as your only source of protection...
bitdefender
kaspersky pure
are 2 great additions to any anti malware suite and will pick up most of the stuff win defender misses.
like i said the reason its not highly rated is its not actually an antivirus. its an antimalware app... you definitely need a 3rd party app to cover viruses, trojans/worms and other forms of malware that win defender doesnt see.

I see.. I did not know that. It is quite good at detecting Malware. When it does detect malware it deals with it automatically and lets me know. As for Everything else it will detect it but only if you happen to be transferring the infected file(s) so there could be a folder full of trojans on my storage drive and MSE will happily let it sit there as long as the files are not doing anything or going any place

Ok i just thought MSE including Windows Defender. But I do Appreciate you feedback and When ever I do revieve an answer that I find the most helpful to my question I pick a solution because I would ask that anyone do the same. So I picked yours as Both were good answers. Though there were others who did have good feedback as well but I can only pick one.
