Hello everyone. I am planning on overclocking the AMD FX 4130 cpu (Black Edition). I am new to OCing. I plan to do this in the future with the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard.

What is a safe GHz to overclock at and at what point will I need A aftermarket CPU cooler. Thanks!

Solution
increasing frequency produces more heat by itself, but beyond a point needs more voltage for stability which adds to the heat. The factory cooler is the minimum required at stock settings for a reasonable life. Any increase from stock settings would shorten the life which can be partially counteracted by adding a better cooler. In the end heat is your enemy, but too high a voltage can also kill it.

Well, each chip is different, there is no magical setting for each CPU unfortunately. you need to find for yourself what your comfortable settings are. I would just google "Overclocking FX 4130 with Asus M5A97 R2.0" and find a moderate OC setting that someone else used, and go from there. If you bluescreen, up the voltage or lower the speed. If all goes well, bump it up until you're happy.

And you need an aftermarket cooler before you even think about overclocking.
