What Kind of PCI-E Slot Do I Have?

I am building my second computer, and last time I didn't run into this problem, maybe pure luck though.

I am trying to install the final piece of hardware, the network card, but it doesn't seem to fit. I am trying to put an ASUS PCE-N53 PCI-E Adapter in but I have to almost force it in to fit. Once it is in, I install the driver but it says that it doesn't detect anything. I tried the adapter on my other computer and it worked like a charm. Is there some type of PCI-E slot that I have to look for to make it work?

My mobo is Sabertooth Z87 if relevant. All help appreciated!

Thanks

Difference: just different speeds. The smaller PCI--E slots normally are for running components rated for 1X - 4X the base speed of PCI-Ex (and I don't recall what that base speed is).
My original answer is still the starting point; read your manual and see if it says...

Im not the best when it comes to bios, and yes I am putting it in the smaller PCI slot. Is there another type of PCI that would fit properly in there and be read by my mobo? I dont know very much about the specifics when it comes to parts, what is the difference between 1X and 2X. Thanks

My original answer is still the starting point; read your manual and see if it says anything about wi-fi etc.
If you are going to work on computers you will have to learn at least the basics of working in the UEFI (BIOS), this is a good time to start.
Also might be time to talk to ASUS Tech support as there is always the possibility that the mobo is bad.

No, determined it wasn't the PCI slot though, when the card was finally read i received a BSOD: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Couldn't even access my desktop. Even after removing it from the rig, the same thing happened, booted in safe mode then removed the drivers and such an I was able to access everything again. Tried that multiple times and even reinstalled windows, same results.

Determined that it is either a faulty driver, or it is not compatible with Windows 8.1

Thanks for your help though

Sorry you didn't get it to work. It is still worth contacting ASUS. They may very well have an answer for y ou, or can tell you if the card is defective. WiFi and its various versions (b,g,n,ac) has been around a long time, 8.1 should not be the problem. The IRQ (interrupt request) message is a big clue that you may have to go to the BIOS and select a separate IRQ manually for the card and slot: I haven't done that in a long time so again, ASUS may be your best shot. It sounds like that PCIe slot is trying to override another PCIe slot for priority.
One more thing to try, Google that error message (BSOD: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.) and see if anything you find helps you. The faulty driver looks like a real possibility.
