I bought Far Cry 3 during the fall sale and am just getting around to playing it, but it will not launch, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, Uplay is updated I am logged in, I can play other UPlay games with no issues, I have tried launching through Steam and Uplay directly, and no luck.

Any Ideas?

Solution

When you launch Far Cry 3 via Steam, does Uplay start? Have you tried launching the game directly from the .exe rather than through the Steam client? If you've installed Steam with the default game library settings you should find it in C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\farcry3\bin32\ (or something like that).

Launching the .exe file may bring up an error message which can help to diagnose the problem further. The Steam forums are also a good place to look; chances are, someone else has posted the problem and resolution already.

Have you checked Windows Event Viewer? If you look at Windows Logs > Application you'll see a report of the crash and the error message/code should help to diagnose the problem. The "stopped working" error message is too generic to diagnose unless there's a code.

Are you running any GPU monitoring applications, like PrecisionX or even GPU temperature monitoring? My FC3 used to crash when I had PrecisionX running and displaying on the second monitor. Run msconfig and report back what is in the Startup tab.

I hit the best solution tab unintentionally for your answer, is there a way to open this thread back up?

Also precision X is not running, nor is any other monitoring software.

Thanks

I unselected the best solution for you.

Please post your Startup tab contents. Can you reinstall FC3? Or at least refresh the local data (I think you can do this thru the steam interface by right clicking the game in your library)

Judging by what Event Viewer and Google are telling me, the error is either caused by a driver or DEP (Data Execution Prevention). It's unlikely to be DEP, so have a look in Device Manager and check if any updated drivers have been installed recently. The GPU is the likely suspect so start with that.

You should also take a look through the Ubisoft FAQs and log a ticket with their technical support team. https://support.ubi.com/en-gb/.

My card is an EVGA GTX 780 classified. My drivers are version 332.21

I have around 40 games on steam and this is the only game that I have ever had a real issue with.

Also put in a support ticket with tech support.

Thanks
