Hi! ok, I'm am trying to research the best camera to get for my birthday, and I had no idea how camera dumb I am! LOL. I am looking for a small digital camera that is good in all lightings, and have a bunch of options to play with the picture's lighting, coloring, and scenes! also I HATE blurry pictures! I really want a camera that has videotaping as well! one that takes a charger, and not batteries... I take a LOT of pictures of a bunch of different things... and I don't want a touchscreen... I like a bunch of different features to change around, and play with... like editing features for both pictures and videotaping. Thank you!!! Please help!!!!

Hi sarahruth - in order to help, we need some basic information - what is your budget? The best camera for a person with a $1000 budget may not be the best camera for a person with a $300 budget.

Also - where are you located - UK/Europe? Asia? Oceana? the Americas? There are different answers for each market - due to availability and price differences.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

Bill is right! There are about 1,000 choices in digital cameras. I have narrowed it down to about 200 of the popular makes. Nikon is my choice and the brand that I recommend.

This is a good place to start your reading and your research: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=9811&N=42885862...

If you are planning on being a serious photographer consider a Nikon DSLR and start out with a medium price body and a wide angle zoom lens (18mm to 55mm).

Well I really want the best camera I can get for cheap... I'm not a professional photographer, but I want a picture worthy to be printed out, and it to be as clear as possible! Also I want just a small camera... One I could fit into my purse, or pocket... I also want to adjust the picture to my liking!

Even though your requirements are contradictory they still point towards something like the Nikon D3200. It will not fit in your purse or pocket.

However, if this is what you really want then look at Nikon Coolpix series 'Point & Shoot' cameras - . http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Brand_Nikon&...

Check out the above model at local stores like Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Best Buy, MicroCenter, TigerDirect, Fry's. You can touch, feel, and fondle before you buy.

Unfortunately, there is no 'perfect' camera. What is very good for one person may be terrible for another.
You may have to do some more research for yourself once you have decided on your own priorities. There are a lot of excellent choices available these days.
The links other people have posted are great places to start as well as hundreds of youtube videos on the subject.
There are so many factors affecting price including sensor size, screen resolution, wifi, water/dust proof, portability, interchangeable lens are a few that come to mind.
Good Luck!!!

A Sony RX100 will give you good enough images to help you determine whether you really want to step up/

Sony RX 100 would suit all your needs. I sold all my dslr gear to have one. Fits in shirt pocket, I'm sure there will be plenty room in a ladies handbag/purse, fits in jeans pocket. Low light functions it super, quality pics in Raw allowing you room for lots of adjustments or Jpg. Takes clear & sharp HD video Photos are superb. As well as auto settings there are manual settings too.
The list goes on, its the best camera I've ever had so far, ok it's not a dslr but the pics coming out of it are darn close enough in quality.

I'm not sure if posting another forum name that is for the RX100 only but typing into google Sony RX100 forum gives you a great one at the top of their listing.
