When the motherboard on my old (Win 7) pc died I removed the fully functioning hard disk which I have put in a usb enclosure.

I then bought a new Win7 pc.

I was hoping to transfer files and settings across using Easy Transfer Wizard.
I did not want to go through the old pc finding documents, files, pics here and there to copy and paste. Instead I want to transfer bookmarks, emails, settings etc using a transfer file. (not programs obviously)

But I only have one working pc.

Easy transfer wizard seems to want me to create a transfer file on the old pc, which I cant do because I only have the drive.

Is this possible to do from a hdd connected by usb?

My new pc is a radically different build from my old one, so it is probably not an option to transfer the hdd to the new pc, boot from it and create the transfer file from there because the pc will not recognise the hardware.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve this simply through my usb connection please?

Ok so you explained the problem.

First of all are we dealing with two laptops.
Or are we dealing with, two tower based systems.

If laptop then the answer is yes you can take the drive out, out it in a 2.5 inch drive enclosure and connect it via usb. As a 2.5 inch drive uses 5 volts as the usb port.

As for a tower there should always be some form or way of connecting more than one drive to the motherboard in side of it.

A 3.5 inch drive requires a 12 volt supply so it needs to be connected, to the psu and the data cable attached to the motherboard from the HD.

Or you can buy a 3.5 enclosure, that comes with a 12v power brick, the internals convert the Sata drive to Usb via a bridge board. To then connect it to usb.
