Hey.

I just built a PC (my second build)

And I have an issue the one that is listed above in the title.

So I press the power button, my fans spins and it sounds like it is about to start up but then it cuts out for about two seconds and then boots fine loading into windows.

I've updated all my motherboard drivers, updated the BIOS to the newest one from the ASUS website and still to no avail.

This isn't everytime I start up, just every now and again.

PC Specs below:

it seems that the power isn't supplying enough power to the entire system. try to refit all the cables from the power supply to the motherboard. also to check the grounding of the mobo.

also check the system temperature to the bios. high temps might cause the sudden shut down of the entire system. this is normal to prevent uncertain damages to the mobo.

Have you tried swapping in a higher wattage PSU? This issue could be caused by a PSU that is not supplying enough wattage to feed all the parts enough power to make it through the initial startup stage. Wattage demand is VERY high when the system first boots up. A 700W system chews up about 750W-800W during Pre-POST. What is the wattage of your computer?

I have the same exact issue and have had it since I built my PC about 2 years ago. And I don't know about you but for me it does not do it EVERY time I start the computer but it does happen alot. Bonie might be right in saying it's a power problem, but I have refit all of my cables several times and even replaced the power supply (after I installed more power hungry graphics cards).

I too have an ASUS motherboard (different part # though). I don't know if it's the motherboard that's doing som sort of pre-boot check, or what.

If you figure it out I hope you'll let us know what it was.

According to the ASUS PSU Calculator they recommend 550W mines, 600W which isn't much over I know. It was doing this without the GPU installed as well so I don't think it's the amount of power getting through.

I'll have to check to make sure the mobo power is connected firmly, I did check numerous times though whilst building it.

If I can figure anything out I'll get back to you guys.

Still no fix, it did it again this morning and then took me to an American Megatrends screen like normal, which forced me to enter the BIOS and boot from there.

I've done a memtest and there was no errors.

I've unplugged the mobo power and cpu power plugs and replaced them.

I've noticed it happens mainly if I just shut down and restart it's fine, but if I shut down and then either unplug from the mains or flick the switch on the back of my PSU and switch back on then it is when it happens.

It's winding me up now haha. Could it be the CMOS battery? Or just something wrong with the whole motherboard?
