Serious Sound Issues

I'm not sure this is in the right section so I apologize in advance. I am having a major issue with the sound on my computer. First off, I use a Sony Bravia as a monitor that, up until a few weeks ago, spit sound out just fine. It is attached to my XFX Radeon R9 270x GPU via HDMI. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. A few weeks ago, the sound stopped on the TV. I tested the TV itself with pre-loaded sounds and confirmed it was NOT the TV. I uninstalled the device and made sure I had the most up to date MSI drivers that were available (I'm using the on-board card, MOBO is an MSI gigabyte 970) as well as AMD drivers for my GPU. No go. I took a chance and plugged my speakers in and boom, I had sound. I left this setup because the speakers sounded better and it worked well until Monday. Sound went out again. I checked the connections, did the uninstall again, unplugged the speakers and the TV was all of a sudden working again. I left it like this until yesterday when it happened again. Same process, uninstall, install most up to date drivers, make sure connections are good, make sure the speakers are unplugged. Nothing. Plug the speakers in. Nothing. The only thing I have noticed that is different (and it was like this before the sound went out) is the TV was showing as a Sony XXV in the device manager but is now a PnP monitor. Again, this happened several weeks ago, before the sound issue, but it's also another issue I don't quite understand.

I hope I've explained my issue well enough and given all the pertinent info. Any advice?
