C2D E8400 on an old Dell optiplex 745 SFF MOBo

hey guyz i've been worry these days i have found a processor Core 2 duo e8400 3.0 ghz and i want to replace it with my old pentium 4 3.0ghz please tell me if it can replace it and i heard its a little bit good and i have found it in an cheap rate and also Pentium G6950 now the problem is don't know if my mobo can support it have an old dell 745 sff mobo i didn't upgraded it to a new mobo kindly guide me which thing i have to do buy a new mobo or any thing but the shopkeeper says it will replace but i don't know that it will replace with a Core 2 duo E8400 Thank u guyz a help would be thankful :)

I don't think it will work. Your motherboard supports a 1066 MHZ FSB, but the E8400 requires a FSb of 1333 MHZ. Look for something in the E6000 series chips.

An old Q6600 core 2 quad chip should also work.

Both the q6600 and q6700 use a 1066MHZ bus so either should work. You might need a BIOS update. I'd make sure you have the newest one before swapping the chips.
