I have my eye on 2 systems. An AMD and an Intel. With the AMD system obviously being the cheapest, is the intel alternative worth the extra expense?

AMD RICHLAND QUAD CORE 6600K FM2
VS
Intel I5 4th Gen 4670 Quad Core 3.4Ghz

Im only really interest in the CPU performance as i'll be upgrading the GPU anyway and the rest of the specs are more or less identical.
I'll mainly be using the system for games like Runescape HD and Skyrim, preferably on high details.

Edit: I also have interest in dual monitors and would like the system to be able to handle the suggested games and multiple applications and still run smoothly.

Cheers

I would at any day of the week choose the 4670 over the 6600k.
I would consider it worth, if that was the 2 only options.

The 6600k won't be able to play Skyrim on any setting really. Skyrim is extremely CPU intensive and REALLY prefers Intel CPUs. In skyrim, cheap, low end i3's were outperforming top of the line 8350s, which are about twice as fast as a 6600k.

The i5-4670 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CO8TBR4 will give far better gaming performance especially if you plan to add a discrete GPU later. The AMD APU can only be paired with certain GPU's to maximize the performance increase but the Intel CPU can be paired with any GPU you want.

Skyrim doesn't use a lot of cores so it favors Intel over AMD performance wise. I would go with the i5 4670 setup for your purposes. It will cost you a little more, but not as bad as it used to be.

If your adding a gpu and the price isnt too much more the i5 wins hands down, on the other hand Runescape will run on a laptop cpu and Skyrim will run fine on any modern amd quad core or even a Pentium so dont stray too far out of budget if thats all you play.
