Hey guys. I just put Windows 8.1 on a custom built PC and it won't load if the PCI card (ASUS PCE-N53 wireless adapter) is installed. At all. It just hard stops at the login screen, freezes, and eventually spits out the BSOD we've seen before with this card. I can take it out, install different drivers, and get a little closer each time, but it always crashes.

At this point, is there any way to fix this that anyone knows of or should I just buy another card? I wasted $50 on this one and don't want to waste more. I can't run an Ethernet cable to the part of the house that this computer is in. ASUS evidently released Windows 8.1 drivers for this card but it still doesn't work. Unlike others, I'm not able to just get poor wireless performance. I'm not able to log into Windows at all with this card.

Thanks for any help anyone has to offer.

asus has already has win 8.1 drivers for it.

1. get the driver from http://www.asus.com/Networking/PCEN53/HelpDesk_Download...
2. get the 8.1 drivers and put it in a usb stick
3. remove nic card from pc, install win 8.1
4. install nic card drivers,
5. put back nic card back into pc.

it should work after that, otherwise if not then 8.1 is still using the default drivers that causes it to crash so boot into safe mode, in that case. and check device manager to see which drivers its using. if its still using the wrong one, (it should say ASUS PCE-N53 300Mbps 11n Dual band Wireless LAN PCI-E Card, with driver provider as Ralink Technology, Corp. dated 10/8/2013. version 5.0.35.0 under the driver tab ) try installing the asus drivers while in safe mode.

I own this card myself and I'm using it with 8.1 with no problems right now, but its is always going to be a bigger hassle to reinstall 8.1 to refresh the pc, so I recommend taking it back if you can.

You can go into the control panel. go to hardwear and sound. then device manager. click on network adapters. click on the the item then go into update drivers. browse from a list of drivers dont let windows pick. then pick on the driver made by realtec. the driver windows gives it doesnt work. ive done this it works but every it does drop WiFi fairly often if your looking to get it with windows 8.1 probably pick another one nothing wrong with the card it is a great card when it works but it fights with windows. if it wont let you into windows take out the card fix the drivers from the disk and in the control panel then re insert the card i hope i can help some of you and remember if your going with windows 8.1 don't get the card but any other OS it will work great.
