Series: MSI Z68A-G45 (G3)
Model No.: MS-7750 (v2.0)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K @ 3.30 GHz
BIOS Version: E7750IMS V11.2 (01/11/2012)
Memory Size: 16384 MB

I purchased a Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" internal hard drive, attached it to a SATA 6 GB/s port (SATA1) and booted from the already installed (SATA2) 1 TB hard disk.

The BIOS and the OS (Linux Mint 16) detected the new 3 TB hard disk and everything was working fine. So I partitioned (2 partitions), formatted (NTFS) and copied my data to it.

After a while I restarted my computer but it didn't boot. It didn't even show the splash screen of the MSI's CLICK BIOS II. It was stuck on a black screen with "A2" written on its bottom right corner.

I pressed F2 to enter the BIOS setup, but it only displayed "Entering setup . . ." and didn't move forward. The keyboard also became inactive, so I powered the PC off.

Now the same thing happens every time I turn my PC on.

However, if I detach the new 3 TB hard disk, the system boots normally.

I checked the hard disk on another PC and it's working fine.

Why is this happening?

It could be a problem with boot order. If you can get into the BIOS, check on that. Otherwise you could try connecting your 1TB hard drive to SATA1 and the 3TB drive to SATA2. It might even be better if you put the 3TB drive on SATA3 or SATA4 because it looks like those two ports and non-boot ports (If I interpret the motherboard images correctly on Newegg).

The system doesn't boot no matter which port I put the 3 TB hard drive on. I've tried all the ports and even changed the cable. As soon as I attach the new drive, I can't get into the BIOS.

Let's see if clearing the CMOS and updating the BIOS works.
