Every time I start-up my laptop, the hard drive starts making these harsh grinding noises that last for 40-50 seconds, longest one going for 1 minute 10 seconds. I've used various PC health-checking software, all of which come out clean. I've also just recently started using Crystal Disk Info, which always gives me a "Good" health status and an average temperature of 31 °Celsius. While I'd like to believe my computer is in good condition, the fact that this happens on every start-up with-out fail causes me to feel a little concerned. I have two audio recordings of the sound in question if that would help, but I'm not sure how to (or if I even can) post them on this site. Any information regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Model: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7640G discrete class
Processor: AMD A8-4500M APU w/ Radeon HD graphics 1.90 GHz (quad-core)
RAM: 8 GB
HDD: Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 750.1 GB
May be of little relevance, but this laptop was bought factory-refurbished from Wall-Mart, ran perfectly fine for 2 years, then the warranty expired...

Make a backup of your data. NOW. LOL Laughing, but being serious as well. If it's making crazy noises, it may be getting ready to take a crap. If it has some age on it, I would seriously consider buying another hard drive and cloning your old hard drive to it. If it goes, it's too late. Better safe than sorry. My suggestion would be to upgrade to a Samsung 840 SSD. They give you an incredible amount of performance/speed gain and come with a very good disk cloning software called "Magician". Again, if you wait until it goes, you're just SOL.
Below is a link to Samsung 840 series hard drives on Amazon. There are 3 different 840 models. They go in this order (least to best) in terms of performance and price: 840, 840 Evo, 840 Pro. I have the 840 Pro and LOVE IT! You wouldn't believe the speed it gives your PC.

Hard drives making weird noises never get better, they only get worse.
Prepare to replace. It will die, and if you don't prepare for it, it will happen at exactly the wrong time.

Are you sure it is your hard drive that is making the noise? I have seen the CD drive makes loud noises on start up as well. If you have a CD drive that is easy to pull out I would recommend removing it and seeing if the noise still happens.
If it is indeed your hard drive as it has been said back up your data now before it is to late.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the hard drive. Both noise and vibrations can be heard/felt from the bottom left-hand side of the computer (opposite of the CD). Which would mean this thing really is totally screwed, huh? Any idea what caused it? I treated this one WAY better than my last laptop, and that old busted thing still runs fairly well to this day, despite all its native problems, age (8 years), and abuse it has suffered (purely accidental, of course). So why would the dv6 die after only 2 years of use? It just doesn't seem fair ;_;

As I said earlier, replace it and do it quickly. You're probably receiving the only warning that it's going that you're going to get. If it goes completely, all of your data could be gone forever.

Sadly yes you may get some more time from this current hard drive however if it is making noise it is going to fail. The best you can do is replace it. Also until you can replace it any important files that can not be downloaded again should be backed up to an external HD/ Flash drive or some sort of cloud storage such as Dropbox or Google drive.
