Motherboard sees HDD but won't boot

I woke up to my computer at an EFI Shell screen. I have a feeling Windows update ran overnight and broke my computer, either that or a component is failing.

Computer won't boot to HDD with Windows 7 on it, I've checked boot order and it just asks to insert a bootable drive. I've cleared CMOS and that didn't work. Tried to make a bootable USB with Seagate drive utility to check if it was a problem with the HDD but the motherboard won't boot from it. However, it does still recognize them and when I tried to do a system repair from the Windows CD it showed the hard drive and all its partitions. I've also tried swapping SATA ports and cables with no luck.

Does anyone have any idea what else I can try, or know if this sounds like it could be solved with a new HDD?

Do you have a backup? Do you have a system backup?

I have Carbonite so all my files should be safe (hopefully that includes Outlooks e-mails). No system backup unfortunately.

I would make sure you can restore what you need from carbonite, before trying anything else, Though hooking the drive up to another system or to a usb dock and running Seatools(fast scan) only won't hurt.

Tried everything and ended up buying a new hard drive and installing Windows 7 there. I've got the old hard drive hooked up and I can access all the files just fine! No idea what was going on, maybe a corrupted Windows file or something.
