Having issues with games and even videos from the internet. My specs are:

Intel I3-2120
6 GB Ram
EVGA GTX 650 TI 2gb
Windows 8.1
500 watt PSU
Everything else is off the shelf HP P6-2142

Everything runs fine after restart then after about 10 mins things slow down, games, videos and the sound in games as well. The FPS drop to nothing, even on simple games like hotline miami.

I have the latest drivers for Nvidia, done all the scans with no issues. Deleted drivers and installed fresh but nothing seems to be working or during the scans nothing is amiss.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what "all the scans" refers to. Run Malwarebytes, and antivirus to make sure you are not infected. Also run the registry cleaner built into CCleaner. Make sure your HDD is no more than 80% full, and that it is defragmented.

Check your system vitals while at idle and while gaming. Random slowdowns can often be due to overheating which can be because of dust, airflow obstructions, dying hardware, or bad overclocking. Make sure your case is dust-free and air is moving freely, and check your system temps and voltages. So long as temps are under (preferably well under) 80*c and your voltages are +/-10% while under load then you should be fine.

Make sure there are no background programs hogging resources. I had a friend...

Are your temperatures maybe running high? If so, the system might start cutting down on the power in order to reduce heat (= decreased performance). You can download Speccy in order to see your PC component temperatures =).

Make sure there are no background programs hogging resources. I had a friend recently come to me with their i3 that was slowing down at random and it ended up being dropbox hogging all of the resources trying to sync when her online storage was reaching its limits. Skype and other programs can be real resource hogs that can bring a lowly i3 to it's knees in no time.

after all that come back with details, and we will try to help further.

Thanks for the feedback so far. The temp while idle is 36 c and gets into the 60's c when running something like metro the last light. I recently cleaned everything and checked the flow and even added a side case fan just in case to keep it cool. Nothing glaring obvious with the heat.

Sorry, all the scans refer to what CaedenV mentioned as well as hardware config through troubleshooting via windows 8.1 .

I checked the background and nothing, i keep an eye on that usually but just to confirm i did double check and there was nothing.

I went back to a Nvidia driver from last year and it seems to be running ok now, I am just worried that it will revert back to the slowness at some point.
