I am planning to buy a canon rebel T5i. I plan to use it for taking pictures, but I would love to use it for taking youtube videos. I have seen a lot of criticism about taking videos with them, is it really that bad? Will I need to buy another camera?

As long as you don't shoot for more than 30 minutes continuously it should fine. One of the knocks against some DSLRs is the overheating issue. I have shot video with a T4i and was satisfied with the quality. I don't recommend using autofocus when shooting video.
