Hi,

I was wondering if I'm even supposed to somehow get system drivers installed into this board with Nvidia card. When ever I try to install the system drivers it gives me catalyst setup, but since i have Nvidia card I'm pretty sure I shouldnt be installing anything catalyst.

I tried googling, I tried MSI website, but I cant find any info on what I should do. Does motherboards even need their own drivers these days? I've built my machines since kid but I had some years in between when I didnt build any machines so I feel like I'm a bit out of loop now.

I'm running MSI 990XA GD-55 (ati chipset) with Nvidia GTX570, and they are compatible but it feels like I'm missing something in my PC being unable to install system drivers.

Thanks :)

Hi,
Your motherboard Main Chipset, and Graphics Card are completely separate and both require their own set of drivers.

They exist for Windows 7 for download but NOT for Windows 8 because they are already bundled with this OS and get installed automatically.

So I guess you have Windows 7:
Since you do NOT even have AMD graphics then there's no need to install that portion so I'm not sure why that's happening. I assume you have a normal CPU not an APU?

The main driver for W7 says "ATI System and VGA drivers" of which you should only need the "System" (Main Chipset likely) drivers.

I don't think it would hurt to have the AMD/ATI VGA drivers installed without an AMD GPU though.

Obviously the NVidia drivers come from NVidia's site.

Yeah I have Windows 7, my CPU is AMD Phenom II X4 970 @ 3,5ghz. I think I'll just try to finish installing that package and see what happens, I'm really not in the mood to reinstall windows if it ever gets to that so I came here poking first hoping that someone has the same setup as mine.
