Will my old Nvidia GT 530 graphics card work in my brothers computer, it's a Dell Inspiron 545 with a 300W power supply?

First thing to do is see if that 300w is enough power. Use this PSU calculator to enter the computer's complete setup:

The card itself WILL fit, as it is PCI-e x16, which the Dell 545 has. The only issue would be the PSU having enough wattage.

It will. But your brother has to play the latest settings at low settings. Try to get him at least a GTX 650ti for smooth moderate gaming experience.

Before I spent money on at GTX 650ti, I'd get another computer. The Dell 545 isn't what one would consider the computer to use for gaming. I'd compare it to adding a supercharger to a Volkswagon Beetle. LOL It just doesn't make sense.

A GTX 650 or 750 would be the best choice. Your old video card won't allow him to play many games released after 2008...

VERY low benchmark. Even in the "Type" of system listed above it is considered "Value", meaning that it's a very low powered system.

"VERY low"? perhaps you are comparing with your ultra-high end configuration dude: "CPU: i7-4770k Motherboard: DZ87KLT-75k OS: Windows 7/Windows 8.1 Hard Drive: Samsung 512GB 840 Pro SSD PSU: Corsair AX860i RAM: 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866Mhz CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 Optical Drive: LG Blu-Ray Burner BH14NS40"

LOL Well....I still consider Sandy Bridge upper end models to be up to par. Some systems are meant to game, others "mainstream" or "value" as it is described. Gaming and video editing are some of the hardest things on a computer.
