So I've got myself a new notebook with I5 4200m , 6gb ram , AMD Radeon HD 8750m & Intel HD Graphics 4600 . i've installed the latest drivers for both GPUs (amd 23rd feb 2014) & (intel 12th march 2014) ... I've been experiencing few issues :
- screen flickering when i start games like fallout 3 and The elder scroll skyrim .
- and in both fallout 3 and skyrim fps on ultra is good despite the flickering but their launchers are only detecting the 4600 not the Radeon .
- when i get to screen resolution -> advanced settings : i find that the 4600 has total memory 5k and detected 2.5k (shared 2.7k) soo is that due to something ... like crossfire XD ?
- experiencing large lag when playing gta iv on high or medium .. low works at high fps .
- NBA 2k14 works great ( don't know how ) on high settings.
- I don't have that command when i right click on an .exe (run with Radeon).
i've downloaded the latest catalyst and whql drivers from AMD site .
so how to fix these stuff .
thanks .
my specs : HP probook 450 g1 - i5 4200m 4th gen - AMD Radeon HD 8750m & Intel HD Graphics 4600 - 6gb ram - os 64 bit windows 8 .

can you change which graphic processor is the default by selecting the dedicated card in ccc?

Click Start , type CCC in the Search field, and then select CCC from the search results list.
On the Welcome screen, click Power , and then click Switchable Graphics .
Image of the Welcome screen with Power and Switchable Graphics highlighted
Select a Recent Application and click the green or red button to change the default graphic solution between power-saving and high-performance.
Or click Browse to find the executable file for the application you need to configure.
Catalyst Control Center Switchable Graphics window
Click Apply to save the new settings.
The changes take place immediately.

I believe you can right-click the desktop and "configure switchable graphics" or something like that. There's a PROFILE of what software is supposed to switch to the AMD GPU.

You may also be able to boot into the BIOS (DEL or F2) and force the AMD GPU to be always on but you'll run a little hotter and battery life (when not gaming) will be reduced.

Also,
1) GTA4 runs horribly even on my high-end computer and the one before that.

2) Fallout 3 has two issues:
a) will crash if you don't force dual CPU in the INI for the game (you can Google for how)
b) has major micro-stutter unless you put ifpsclamp=60 into the main INI. *The game will run smooth only if you can output above 60FPS however, otherwise it gets even worse.

It's completely night and day between the ifpsclamp fix working and not. The stutter "fix" does little, only this one.

So tweak the quality with VSYNC OFF so you get close to 100FPS if possible (may not be) and apply the above fix. I say 100FPS because it will drop later below 60FPS if you start too close to 60FPS. The CPU one regardless. You'll see what I mean...

*You likely may need to ignore all this (except CPU fix) and turn VSYNC OFF and run about 40FPS. I assume the micro-stutter is only a VSYNC issue. The only issue is you'll get SCREEN TEARING but if it's not too bad this may be ideal (40FPS with VSYNC OFF).

c) Skyrim: I think the ifpsclamp=60 fix applies here (and the same caveat of NOT dropping below 60FPS) but it's been a while. Great game though.

3) Fallout NV:
You didn't mention this game, but it works the same. You do NOT need the CPU fix though.

UPDATE:
Here's the fixes for Fallout 3 added to "fallout.ini" in Documents/Fallout3:
bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2
ifpsclamp=60

So i've did what you've said about fallout 3 and put these lines in .ini file ... works fine when i set it at power saving good FPS on ultra about 15-20 when i set it back to high performance it starts flickering too .

Switched my power setting to high performance then i used a benchmark program "unigine heaven benchmark 4 (basic edition) , when i set it to power saving (from ccc) after 80 secs gave me 13fps , when i set it to high performance it dropped to 11.(some value) same amount of time and same settings XD .

I've tried switching from High performance and power saving with NBA 2k14 same FPS . (high settings).
now i know that AMD is working but is it working all the time ? i remember setting for 4600 64 bit from bios so that means it's enabled and it's being shown for GPU-Z .. also AMD is being shown but without much info .

So I've been thinking about installing the driver that's provided by HP , it's 23 Sep 2013, should i do that or just stick with the current ?

if you download video drivers do it from amd site unless your talking about the integrated gpu

When i'm opening GPU-Z with the current drivers (AMD provided by AMD) and (intel provided by HP support) it tells me that GPU core clock of the intel 4600 is 1150 MHz although its max is 400 (that's on high performance from the notebook's panel) , when i switch it back to power saving (the notebook's not ccc) it gives me 600 GPU core clock .
- Is windows 8 bad with dealing with these stuff and i should downgrade to 7 ? ... A friend told me that this might be the problem .
- whenever i try to monitor the AMD with GPU-Z it doesn't tell me anything ... all 0s.

Also is this has something to do with crossfire, and if it's true .. how can i turn it off ?
- And how about the order of installing the drivers ; should i install the intel first then AMD or vice verse ?

if the core clocks went that high maybe it switches to the dedicated card in high performance, i dont think its a problem with your os though. can you go into the bios on it and disable the intel graphics? it shouldnt have anything to do with cfx you can check it in the ccc though and if you uninstall the drivers do it this way

dl and install http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_unin...
power down
power up into safe mode
uninstall graphic drivers new and old (intel and amd/ccc)using tool
power down
power up into windows
go to amd's site to dl drivers

I've removed the AMD using this tool then i've used another tool called Driver fusion to remove the Intel one , now whenever i try to reinstall any driver whether it's AMD or Intel when i access my screen resolution then advanced settings i find nothing just MS Basic display driver .. although both CCC and intel panel are installed but none of them are opening. XD

when i installed the catalyst driver before i remove stuff using tools, the HP one detected that i've got an HD 8750m , on the other AMD site driver it detected that i've got 8600/8700m ... does that make a difference ?
- I'm pretty a noob when it comes to these stuff XD.
-I'm installing win 8 again cause maybe i missed up with registries or something like that .

always download from amds site they have the most recent and reliable drivers for your card. its a shame that they build laptops this way. whoever puts it together should check these things. poor qc imo

depends on motherboard as to how much memory is dedicated or shared but mine is 1.8 mb. it is just the available memory that it can use if needed but should be freed up by the system if not being used and needed for other tasks

Aha ... well i can see that using GPU-Z ... thanks for emphasizing stuff for me .
Also thanks for photonboy for illustrating how bad is GTA IV despite running a game like Skyrim on ultra and having good FPS , GTA still lags on high XD .

Hi, My Friend.

Check you control panel -> Power Options. It should be configured as Balanced for your configuration to take effect. If it is set to Power Saver option, even if you switch it on to High Performance on your Catalyst, it will be superseded by your power options.

I hope it helps, it worked for me!

Thanks for the reply but i always run my notebook on High Performance whether it's plugged in to the charger or not but i was able to run Skyrim perfectly on ultra settings with just changing the compatibility settings to windows 7 or XP (I'm using 8 at the moment) and I've also updated my AMD driver to 14.3 .. waiting for 14.4 for mantle support :D  .
