Hi,

My hp G6 Pavilion laptop has started getting hot for the past couple of days & I noticed the CPU usage is between 40% to 80% and fan is running high. While ram is being used 50%-60% like always.

System Specs are
Core i3 2.5Ghz, (I think 1st Generation)
4GB Ram DDR3

I'm running same routine programs like Chrome, Skype, MS Excel etc (Just routine office stuff, nothing different), but I never had any such issues before in last 3 years until now.

I remember earlier when I used to do this kind of normal work, my CPU Usage used to be 5% - 20% & only 2 cores used to be in action while 2 cores used to be cool, but now all 4 cores are in action.

I guess some program is running in the backend!

Can you tell me how can I find out which program is using the most amount of CPU? And How to tell if it is safe to terminate that program?

Please guys I need urgent help.
Thanks.

Better still, right click on the very bottom of your screen where there isn't any program buttons. Then click on Start Task Manager. Then click on Processes tab. You will see every program running and what percentage of your CPU it is using.
Or just click Cntl+Shift+Esc. That opens Task Manager too. Sorry. LOL

OK, it was related to realplayer, just got rid of realplayer as I don't use it anymore.

I've another question see if you can help. While I've 8,9 tabs open in Chrome, the Task Manager shows like 15 processes of Chrome.exe Some of them use 50/60MB Ram, while some only use 5/10MB. Why are there so many Chrome.exe in task manager?

Thanks.

Sounds like it's probably add-on's, extensions or maybe even toolbars. Disable/Remove any that you don't use.
