I'm trying to connect my PC to my Pioneer receiver and the receiver to the TV both with HDMI cables. When the TV is off, the sound is working like it should, but when I turn the TV on, the sound stops working. When I connect my PS3 with the same setup, everything works as it should. I've set the receiver as default playback device.

TV - Samsung UE46F5305 46"
Receiver - Pioneer VSX-923
PC - HP ProBook 4330s

Any help appreciated!

which hdmi ports are you using? is the pc connected to lets say hdmi1 and the tv to the hdmi output? or are they both inputs?

does your tv and/or receiver support ARC?

what is displayed on the front of the receiver with the tv on?

I'm using the HDMI out from my laptop to one of the HDMI in on the receiver, and the HDMI out from receiver to HDMI in on the TV. I've checked the manual for the receiver. I'm sure all the cables are plugged correctly, since the PS3 works with the same setup. Both the receiver and TV supports ARC. I'm pretty sure the receiver says the same whether the TV is on or not, though I'm not at home to check right now.

you have the cables in right.

the reason i asked about arc is that perhaps you have it turned on and instead of getting the audio from your laptop its instead trying to pull it from the tv.

try swapping to the hdmi input used for the ps3. or going into your menu (both tv and receiver) and turning ARC off. it might be labeled as audio return channel instead (ARC)
