I had a spare WD 3tb my book that I want to use as an internal in my computer instead. After removing it from the case I put it into another external case so that I could format the drive and transfer from my old smaller drive (If you remove it from the WD case you can't use it without formatting it).

I made it a GPT disk as it is 3 TB and then formatted it. Once I transferred all my files to it from my old drive I put it in my computer but it didn't show up. I looked in comp management and have found that the drive is showing up as unallocated space of only 700gb.

If I put back it in the other external case I get the full drive, I have tried formatting it again in that case and putting it back in my PC but it is still only showing as 700gb available.

Thanks for any help you can offer

It is still showing up as not formatted. That's what the picture says by the black line and "Unallocated". I've been right in that spot before.

No more scans that I can think of. Note this: If the line beside the drive i the Computer Management is black, the system views the drive as not formatted. It has to be blue like your other one..

Buyers remorse......I hate it. Well....you at least know what you will do next time around. :)

Thanks for the help though. It's also looking as though it may be the intel rapid storage version won't support a 3 tb drive so I am looking into that. If I find a fix I will post it

Disable Intel Rapid Storage and see if your problem is fixed.

Problem solved. I updated the intel rst driver and as soon as I rebooted the drive reinstalled and I had two partitions, one of 746gb and one of 2048gb.
Just deleted the partition and reformatted as one drive.
Thanks for your help, it's always useful to bounce ideas off of someone

Here is the link to the driver if anyone else has the same issue
