My CPU multiplier is locked at 6 (out of 9) Leaving my CPU at only 2Ghz when it should be 3. I went into the bios to change the multiplier but I couldn't find any option to do so. I searched online for guides but couldn't find any. How do I change the multiplier of my CPU?

Which motherboard and CPU are you using? Are you sure the CPU isn't just at idle when you read the multiplier?

My CPU is Core 2 duo e8400
My Motherboard is the asustek computer inc berkeley

Also, I put the CPU under intense load and the multiplier stayed the same.

Oh, it's an OEM board. HP/Compaq. Bummer. Those aren't supported very well BIOS-wise. It may in fact NOT have an option to adjust the clock multiplier for the CPU. If the processor has ever run at the correct speed in the past, you might try resetting the BIOS to factory default and see if that changes it back.

Before you do that, though... try this. Boot to safe mode and check the multiplier when you run an intensive CPU app like Prime95. If the problem goes away, it would be a Windows issue.

That sucks. I guess this would be a good reason to upgrade my CPU and motherboard. Thanks for the help!
