So I have a 120gb ps3. I think I got it in 2011 but I'm not sure. It has worked great until lately when I put a disc in and it doesn't read. Usually I take it out and put it back in and it works. Then it went on to putting the disc in and getting an eject noise and not reading. It would take a few tries until it read. I worked out a good way to get it to work. Take disc out, put a case under the front of the ps3 , turn it on then put disc in. It usually always worked. I play gta 5 and that has pretty much been the only game I've played lately. Last night it froze. But when it froze I couldn't turn it off with the power button so I turned it off at the PowerPoint and went to bed. This morning I got up and went to play gta 5 and my usual method didn't work. The disc wouldn't read and I tried other discs but no success. Can someone please help me because I love playing gta 5 and my other games. Do I need a new ps3 or do I need to replace something. I don't know if it is still under warranty. Please, please help!

you can try cleaning it or Try an audio CD or a DVD. If those work, then it is possible that your blu-ray laser diode has failed. If those don't work, listen for any motor sounds when you put a disc in. It may be the drive motor, or maybe the stepper motor that focuses the lens.

All of the above would require repair or replacement.
