could a wireless usb adapter be used to get the internet in place of a wireless router?

I am trying to connect a wireless usb adapter to get the internet. Do I need a router also or could this be used in place of a router?

you still need a wireless source. a wireless usb adapter is a network card in usb form.

A wireless USB adapter is used to connect to a wireless router. It's equivalent to an Ethernet port on a computer. The router is connected directly to the Internet via a source like Comcast, AT&T, etc.
