Hello

I am planning to buy a new processor and these are the processors i have in my mind and my vote is for xeon processor

i5 2400 - $140
i7 2600 - $280
Xeon E3-1240V2 - $200

Now the thing is my motherboard is "Gigabyte ga-b75m-d3h" ,so i want to know which processor is the most suitable for my motherboard, because some of my friends said i need special hardware to get the best performance from a xeon cpu so i should buy i7 or i5 one instead of wasting my money on a xeon cpu.

What do you guys think? what should i choose?

And i am planning use this for gaming and video converting/encoding

Also please pick a processor from the above list, don't suggest some other cpu models.

Thank you

Solution
ummm, well, what do you use your pc for? and i strongly suggest getting a new mobo/cpu that is socket 1150. if this is for gaming, the xeon and i7 is a waste of money, go with the i5 4670k. if this is a server, then go with socket 2011 and a new xeon.

i7 a waste of money? Never heard anyone say that before! LOL The i5 is a good processor, but the 4770k is simply a better processor.

Hello

can you enlighten me why Xeon isn't good for gaming and encoding? these 3 processors are the only available processor that goes with my budget.(yes i am getting xeon for a cheap price, its not brandnew)

it is pretty much a waste of money over a i5-4670K. the i7 basically just has hyperthreading and has a slight performance increase over the 4670K. i7 is also better in video editing, but is not worth the extra $100 over the 4670K

What is your opinion, just tell me if you were me,what processor you pick? i5 2400($140),i7 2600($280) or xeon 1240v2($200)?

what i mean is if this is a gaming computer, any i7 is a waste of money. the best i7 will perform maybe 5-10 fps higher than the i5 4670k. you are way better off with the i5 4670k and an amazing gpu.

My budget is $300 but what i need to know is what is the best processot among these 3 (i5 2400,i7 2600,xeon 1240v2)

there is no answer. none is better than the other because they all excel in different categories. it completely depends on what you will be doing. in general, an i7 will outperform an i5, but not always. the only reason to get an i7 is if you are doing some seriouse video-editing, or you are really rich and want to spend a couple hundred more dollars for 10 more fps. the xeon is for servers, and an i5 will beat it in games, and pretty much anything that doesnt use a ton of cores/threads. so long story short, there is no winner or looser.

I would choose the i7. Simply because your doing video encoding/converting and gaming. But there is no real answer to this. although since you have a 300$ budget i'd go with the i7

Yeah i am very confused right now,i just want to know which one is the best among those 3 cpus,i dont need any suggestions.I can get xeon for $200 but why does some people think xeon is a bad idea.

Thank for the reply mate

What the man says is true. Of all the options you have, the Xeon would be your worst choice for what you intend to do with your system. Honestly, that's the only one that I would say to steer completely away from.
