Wireless VS. Powerline

Hi forum,

I've built a gaming rig and, since I can't hook up my router to my computer without drilling through 8 feet of drywall, I've decided not to. Now all that remains is the question of which will get me faster connection: Wireless, or Powerline.

Initially, I would say Powerline, but since I live in a relatively old house (50 years) that hasn't been gutted and rewired for 20 years, I wonder whether WiFi would be more reliable and faster than Powerline.

ping is an issue, price is not.

It depends what you are doing. Both are likely faster than your internet. Wireless will be a little have more total throughput in many cases if you are doing file transfer within the house. The key difference is powerline tends to be more consistent. The speed you get will not have as much random variation because of interference. This means if you play online games it you are better off using powerline

Thank you so much! Both were availible from my local supplier for about $60 cheaper. I've been running them for two days now and been getting speeds from about 400mbps to 700mbps. They're great!

Told ya man. STUPID FAST! LOL You'll be converting all of your device to wireless-AC before too long. :D
