Memory too good for MB? Should I voltage down?

Hi all,

My MB is MSI a75ma-e35 which is apparently rated for only 1600 @1.5 volts according to MSI webpage specs. I had purchased G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C11D-16GXM. Which happens to be 1.6 volts. My question is should I lower voltage setting in BIOS. Have notice some freezing/crashing. I now know it was overkill in GB.

Solution
What APU are you running? Couple of options available with what you have, you can try raising the CPU/NB voltage to around 1.2-1.3 and see if that stabilizes...or drop to 2133 and set timings to 10-12-12-31 and try that (still may need some extra to the CPU/NB voltage which feeds the MC (memory controller)
return your ram if its not too late. and the freezing is from the speed being 2400, and the mobo only supports up to 2133. the 1.6v is 100% fine, they only say it supports up to 1.5v to be absolutely 100% totally positive there will be no issues. 99.999% of the time, up to 1.65volts is fine. that was WAY overkill ram, and i would suggest either return it and spend the money on a socket am3+ build, or get 8gb of 2133 ram, as you want the fastest possible for an apu.

UPDATE: typo, the board only supports up to 2133.

Nothing wrong with 16GB, in fact it's good with a APU, and nothing wrong with trying 2400 on a mobo that 'says' it supports up to 2133 - the mobo chipset can support higher, and it's the MC in the APU that is primary in what DRAM freqs it will support, not the mobo. The days of the mobo being the primary factor in DRAM freq determination went on it's way with the demise of the 775 socket, where the MC was in a chipset (the NB) on the mobo

well, it depends on what the use of this computer is. if it is for games, then 16 is still overkill. you wont run better than medium settings at 1080p or high at 720p, and if you put 1.5-2gb of your ram towards your apu, then the leftover 6.5-6gb of ram is still more than you need. now, if this is for video-editing, then 16gb is still overkill cuz you cant edit videos for your life with an amd apu.

Well, while it may be strictly for gaming, but didn't see anything to that affect...even iif it is, it's a new build and 8GB is the accepted minimum, so 16GB is (and has been for awhile) a logical choice for a number of reasons, like if you want it to last a few years, even a couple, getting 8GB now means a good possibility of needing to upgrade within that time period, and since mixing sticks can be problematic, that would mean buying a 16GB set in the future...and at an even higher price than it's going for today, prices are rising as we speak and not likely to drop as production is going down as the manufacturers gear up for DDR4, another year -year and a half and prices will be like DDR2 is today - very-very high

I made this medium build for gaming. My APU is A10-5800K. I purchased the RAM thinking "Future Build" I have had this build for just over a year so RMA won't happen. I will try lowering speed and boost NB to see if it stabilizes the certain games it's having trouble with video etc. I will post results later. Thanks for the awesome responses folks.

What is the "MC"? My APU is A10-5800K and I can't find any information on what it may support.
I did lower the voltage on the RAM to 1.55 and that seemed to smooth out my skipping mouse issue at least. I was going to add some voltage to by NB but realized there are two of them stated in Click BIOS II. One if the the CPU because it is labled and the other is not labled. The CPU is currently at 1.2084 volts the other is 1.2133. I'm not sure which to apply additional juice.
