yes.
to get deal channel operation you will need rams having same memory, matched DIMM configuration, matched in symmetrical memory slots .
Configurations that do not match the above conditions revert to single-channel mode. The following conditions do not need to be met:
same brand, same timing specifications, same speed (MHz)
ok so could my single threaded memory be a reason for poor game performance? If I got a pack of 2x4gb chips how much performance gain could I see in game? Basically, is 80$ worth the performance enhancement Id see in a game like COD Ghosts or Minecraft? would having matched sticks of 4gb each reduce fps drops? (I have a gtx 750 so my gpu shud beast these games)
the motherboard will utilize the theoretical band width of the two modules, so improvement is guaranteed(the performance gains from dual-channel chipsets aren't huge, they can increase bandwidth by as much as 10 percent).
what is happening is with a deal channel platform, you are reducing the system latency, the timing delays that inherently occur with one memory module.one controller reads and writes data while the second controller prepares for the next access, hence, eliminating the reset and setup delays that occur before one memory module can begin the read/write process all over again.
your 2x4GB rams should be exactly identical with the exact same specifications.the modules must be identical to each other to perform correctly.
