Hi all, my motherboard asrock h61m hvgs had break down recently and I was looking for a new one to replace it. May I ask what motherboard can I get to replace it , in a way that I dont have to change other components that are currently still working(only motherboard)? Thanks in advance!

Solution

The main difference between an ATX and micro-Atx motherboard is in their physical dimensions. An ATX board is around 2.5 inches longer. So if your case has enough room to hold an ATX board you are good to go. All of your existing components would fit in an ATX board just fine. No...

Hi thanks for your reply. Hmm, my other components are PG 620 cpu, MSI Global R5450-MD1GD3H/LP, 4gb kvr , hds500gb, fsp he-400. budget, around 100-200. as low as possible just something better than asrock h61m hvgs and compatible with the rest of my components will do. Thanks once again!

Hi, am I able to use ASUS that is based on ATX form factor, and yet keep the rest of my components unchanged?
May I know if my budget is 100 and below, do I still have any options that is worth consideration? Most importantly is on par or slightly better than h61m-hvgs and I dont need to change any other components. as i just need to use this for another 2 or 3 years and i will probably get a new system. Thanks , really appreciate all your answers.

All of the three boards I mentioned in my previous post are better than your current H61m Asrock board. They are based on H77 chipset which provides more features than H61 chipset like: more RAM slots, Usb 3.0 and SATA 6 gbps ports for faster connectivity, multi GPU support etc.

If you want to stay within 100 USD then get either Gigabyte or the ASRock board I mentioned. These three are they best I could find, There are a few cheaper board but you may run into a compatibility issue with them.

Hi, I have found this somewhere in the net, is this true? "you can only replace the motherboard with another identical motherboard, windows takes its own snapshot of the system configuration (mainly the motherboard), once a new motherboard is installed it takes another snapshot the system config, if the new snapshot does not match then windows will not load... microsoft doesn't want you taking that HDD and installing it on another computer, that is the reason for the snapshot, if not then they would not sell operating systems, people could build a modern upgraded pc an just slap in the HDD from the old PC which is not conducive to increasing the balance of bill gates savings account.." so meaning , if i get another motherboard I cant load? pls verify for me . thanks!

Windows installation Disc comes in two variant. A normal multi-user version and An OEM version. What you are saying is true with OEM version. After installing the OEM version it binds to that specific hardware and can't be used with any other hardware configuration... But the multi-user version can be installed in different PCs with different configs.

But if you have the OEM version and even if you buy exactly the same motherboard, you still might need a fresh install. Just putting the HDD into the same new board might not work...
