Hi.
i have an Asus s400ca, with win 8 preinstalled. i wanted to install win7 and i proceeded just like I did in another 100 cases: I wiped all partitions (not only format), disabled secure boot in BIOS, installed 7 on the SSD part of the hard drive via a portable dvd, everything worked like a charm until the final reboot (when it should load the SO from the SSD).
somehow it does not “see” the SSD. it just stays in a loop, showing ASUS logo, then blank with a blinking cursor, then reboot, then ASUS logo and so on.
I enter into BIOS, select the SSD, save and exit, reboot, but no change.
After my knowledge win installed successfully on SSD, all the steps were acomplished.
Any recommendations?
thanks a lot guys.

If the ssd is gpt formated then windows 7 won't work i had that too and needed to do everything all over again

Don't install 7, the drivers won't support an older OS.

Leave 8.1 installed and you'll get used to it. You're just making a headache for no reason. 8 is faster, and lighter on drive space.

The BIOS might have a security feature that locks it to boot only 8, because of the relationship between Windows 8.1 and the power conservation.

Sry for the noob question...how do I know it's gpt formatted? when installing, i wiped the partitions from within the install process, so I guess win should have formatted properly...

it's ok Alec, i 've seen win7 on a similat pc and everything worked alright. even scrolling with the touchpad, screen touching etc. thx for the reply and advice ;)

it should say it while installing but i always check it in the os with easeus partition manager.

It's seriously not a bad OS. Unless you need a specific application, 8 is the better option. I wouldn't let other people's judgment create additional work for no reason.

Boot of the Windows 7 disk and run a repair install, make sure BIOS can see the SSD drive.
It's really not worth the headache though.
