username password issues

I have a desktop with XP Pro running Firefox 27 that crashed. I tried using the login info from the Firefox saved passwords to access my daily message boards from my laptop running Windows7 and Firefox buy manually typing in the un and pw and most of the boards refuse to let me in saying the username and or password is incorrect.

I am on ATT dsl with their gateway that shows the same IP as the desktop was assigned.

Can someone advise me why I am not able to access the sites through the laptop ?

Negative. I have tried several times on all boards, only 2 of the 7 accepted the current info. I have had the pw changed on another board and it is working fine.

I got an error window that advised me I was on a different computer when accessing my bank and had to have them change my pw to get in that site also.

Contact the site owner. Can't really help much, doesn't sound like a hardware issue judging by that error. It's by design.

This is too crazy, now one of the boards that refused the login info is accepting it and another that I was logged into yesterday is refusing the info ...

I have built the past 2 desktops, (and have new parts ordered to build a new desktop), and I consider myself somewhat proficient @ solving computer issues, but I can not find anything on this, not on Firefox forums or Microsoft forums.

Any/all suggestions are appreciated !

Reset the password?

If it's saying you're on a different computer, you most likely need to add the computer from an email confirmation.

Using the ATT gateway with the same IP can only mean that the sites are keeping track of the mac address of the machine ?

Previously, when I had both machines online at the same time, I did not have this issue.

Let me try rebooting the gateway ...

The Mac address is only tracable up to the router, the router sends it's own Mac address after that.

They most likely pull hardware information from Windows.

Yeah, my thoughts on the mac addy also.

So if it is possibly a Windows thing I am back to the OS causing this ?

As I said, if the website is banning you because you are on a different computer, it's by design on the website.

Just contact them and they will explain how to whitelist your second computer.

Funny thing, I am Admin for a couple, SuperMod, for all but one, that is Mod level permissions, and like everyone else, I will have to send an email to the Admin requesting a pw change for access ....

lol

Sometimes it seems like the more I learn the less I know !
