Hi! I am a freelance motion designer. After many years working with mac, I am not really excited about the new mac pros and feel a little bit lost.
I am looking for advice on a workstation build to work with adobe cc, especially with after effects.
My budget is around 3500-4000 euros.
I know the parts I have chosen so far are gaming components, but right now I don't have the budget to invest in workstation parts.
So here is my build so far:

Asus ROG Rampage IV Black Edition Intel X79
Intel Core i7 4930K 6x 3.40GHz So.2011 WOF
64GB Corsair Vengeance Black DDR3-1600
3072MB EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked ACX Cooler Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16
2 x 250GB Samsung 840 Evo Series 2.5" (6.4cm)
2 x 2000GB WD Black WD2003FZEX 64MB 3.5"
860 Watt Corsair AXi Series Modular 80+ Platin
Corsair Hydro Series H100i Komplett-
Fractal Define R4 gedämmt Midi Tower
Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD-RW SATA
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit Englisch

3000 euros @ mindfactory.de

Thanks for your advice!

You might want to look into the 2011 Xeon Processors for more desktop performance. Design applications will take advantage of them, and you'll get a a fairly stable platform.

The 780 Ti is a bit Overkill also, unless you are using CAD.

Also remember; Windows is not nearly as stable on Mac OS.

Hey Alec! Thank you very much for your input. I've been looking into the Xeon Processors but they are considerably more expensive. Is there a specific model you would recommend within this budget? The i7 4930K is 478 euros.

Well, you can save a ton by ditching that videocard. Unless you running some seriously heavy 3D applications or plan on gaming, no features on that card will be used. a GTX640 would be plenty.

H100 is also overkill unless you plan on overclocking. the Noctua NH12 should be fine, and it's quiet. The H100 is very loud.

Gaming is more expensive than a workstation. I think you are confusing workstations with servers.

How much actually computer power do you require here, or are you just going for the most powerful setup you can afford?

Right now I am working on a 5092x1080 project. It is going to be projected with 3 1080p projectors with frame blending. The footage is mainly a collage of 5472 × 3648 pictures + 1080p video footage. Composited in after effects with camera and DoF. The plugins I usually work with are Trapcode (particular and form), Element 3d and Plexus.

Looks like mostly open GL based. You might want to look into the Quardo instead. It's not for gaming at all, but for rendering 3D, it will give a performance boost.

I'd had to say this but....

The 4K Mac pro comes with the AMD OpenGL workstation card, the Xeon and 16GB of RAM.

I think purely for stability and compatibility, Mac is the way to go.
