Which PCI slot will live on?

I've got a weird issue. My HV 40 cannon video camera requires a firewire 1394 input so I'll need to add a card to my desktop PC.

I can buy the card in PCI or PCI-e. I have both slots available. In the future, years down the line, I'll probably want to move this card to a new mobo. Will PCI probably always be around or should I buy this card in PCI-e format?

Also, I'm confused as to what ieee 1394 type I should get. I bought my HD camera in 2010, but there are different types of 1394 such as a and b. The camera is slow to transfer, on a 1 to 1 basis, so I don't think speed is a factor. My main issue is making sure I get a quality transfer without damaging any hardware.

Thanks for the help

PCI-e is the obvious answer, a or b. Whether HV40 will support it or not. 1394b is backward compatible. It won't make any difference to your HV40 though. . So either way it won't matter.

Sidenote: As of 2012 Sony were the only one notable user in their cameras.
