I am planning for a gaming desktop,

GPU chosen by me is MSI NVIDIA N660-2GD5/OC 2 GB GDDR5 (let me know if i should get a better one).

So which i7 processor should i go for, as integrated graphics are of no use to me. I am confused between 3rd and 4th gen processors.

Most of the articles say ivy-bridge and haswell architecture do not have much performance difference so i believe 3rd gen processors will serve good for me. Is there any significant performance difference between these 2 generations.

Solution
Get i5 4*** and GTX-760, there is not big difference in gaming between i5 an i7 but GTX-760 would work significantly faster than GTX-660 and if you can get 4th gen i5 with the same why not to get it?

1. If you're planning for a gaming desktop, you are completely more than fine with Intel Core i5.
2. That graphics card is good, you could get a better one, but I don't know what budget do you have.
3. Ivy Bridge is almost the same in performance as Haswell and it runs cooler, but Haswell can have something like 5 frames per second more than Ivy Bridge.

1) Processor initially chosen by me was Intel 3.4 GHz LGA 1155 Core i5 3570K Processor. But i had quite enough space in my budget so i thought of getting a i7.
2) i can go for a GPU that is up to $100 costlier than this one. (this one is almost $225)
3) I hope compatible MoBos will be different for different architecture of processors. I would not like to sacrifice in that term as well, if there is not much difference in cost.

As per the suggestions, i have selected
processor - Intel Core i5-4670K Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.4 GHZ 6 MB Cache
