please i need help about my hard disk

hello i have a very serious problem on my hard disk that its freezing but i can still move my mouse and it sounds like its loading. i tried to firmware update and it told me failed and i today i noticed that when it went to try update it told me no controllers detected. do hdd need controllers and if they do how can i get them?

Most probably windows is slowing down the drive .
Check the "advanced" section of your power settings to see how long Windows waits before powering down disk drives and adjust it to "never" if necessary.

is this setting in control panel if not could you tell me where can i find this please?

Go to Control Panel. Set the "view" to large or small icons (not category), so it shows all of the Control Panel items. Then click on "Power Options". Then click on "Change Plan Settings", then "Change advanced power settings".
