so im getting more ram for my pc. i have already 4gb (2x2) ddr3 preinstall. im getting 16gb (2x8). my qyuestion is that i have two extra slots available. would i be able to install the addtional ram and still keep the original ram install. so i could have a total of 20gb of ram.
would doing this cause any conflict with my pc? or am i just better off just installing the new 16gb and taking out the 4gb?

Normally motherboard with four slots will have two alternate while coloured slots and two alternate bule/black coloured slots. You might wan't to put those two 8 gb ram sticks in two white slots and move your current 2 gb ram sticks to blue ram slots. Because those white slots normally have higher frequency support.

how do i tell which slots run at a higer frequency i have blu/black slots. my current ram in pluged into the blue slots. so is it reason enough to think that the blue runs at a higher frequency then the blacks? so i would put my new ram in the blue slots and move my old ram onto the black slots?

No no no. Every ram slot on a mobo has the same speed support. If there are 4 slots and one has 2 DIMMs. You put them in either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 to get the benefit from dual channel memory. If you have 2 sets of different ram it will be the same no matter how you arrange it
